Адвокат затриманого через аварію на Дунаї 29 травня 64-річного українця, капітана великого пасажирського судна Viking Sigyn Балаж М.Тоут вважає, що арешт і допит українця, у котрого за плечима 44-річний стаж плавання на різноманітних суднах річкового флоту, зроблені передчасно, оскільки ще не готова експертиза фахівців. Він також озвучив заяву українця про те, що «Вікінґ» не порушував жодних правил судноплавання.
«Існує дуже багато відео. Я особисто бачив їх чимало. Припускаю, що ці відеозаписи бачили і слідчі. Ми вважаємо, що повинна бути бодай попередня експертиза. А бачення подій слідством зараз є не більше, ніж теорія», – заявив адвокат 31 травня.
Заарештований український капітан вже скористався своїм правом і написав скаргу на дії угорських правоохоронців щодо взяття його під варту як підозрюваного.
За словами адвоката, під час допиту затриманий 64-річний одесит детально розказав, як відбувалися події 29 травня перед будапештським мостом Марґіт на Дунаї.
«Одразу після зіткнення з прогулянковим катером «Русалка», наскільки це дозволяли умови річкової повені, пасажирське судно «Вікінґ» зупинилося. Подали сигнал про зіткнення, відтак, за узгодженням із владою, визначилися з місцем стоянки», – повідомив Балаж М.Тоут.
Адвокат сказав, що його клієнта дуже надломила новина про те, скільки людей загинуло в аварії і що він попросив переказати через юриста свої співчуття сім’ям загиблих.
31 травня на місці події побували Петер Сійярто, керівник МЗС Угорщини, зі своєю південно-корейською колегою Кан Ген Хва. Разом із нею прилетіли також семеро членів родин загиблих. Корейська сторона висловила готовність надати угорцям всю необхідну фахово-технічну допомогу для віднайдення зниклих пасажирів.
«Ми не заспокоїмося доти, доки не буде знайдено останнього зниклого. Нас не покине надія», – зазначила міністр закордонних справ Південної Кореї.
За словами Петера Сійярто, зараз у пошуку задіяні сотні людей. Однак він зауважив, що треба налаштуватися на тривалі пошуки через украй несприятливі погодні умови та повінь на Дунаї. Він пообіцяв, що угорська влада буде намагатися з’ясувати усі причини, які призвели до аварії 29 травня.
Пізно ввечері 29 травня перед мостом Марґіт на Дунаї зіштовхнулися два річкові судна. Менший річковий пароплав «Русалка» з 35-ма особами на борту (капітаном судна і матросом (обоє угорці), а також 33 пасажирами з Південної Кореї) від зіткнення з великим прогулянковим судном «Вікінґ» дуже швидко затонув – буквально за 7 секунд. Вижили семеро громадян Південної Кореї. Сімох пасажирів знайшли вже мертвими за три кілометри від мосту Ладьманьоші у Будапешті.
Пошуки 21 зниклого пасажира тривають і досі. Через стрімку течію, яка сягне свого піку, за прогнозами гідрологів, 1 червня, погану видимість і повінь на Дунаї водолази не можуть ретельно обстежити виявлене за допомогою сонарів затоплене судно. Австрія запропонувала Угорщині допомогу фахівцями та спеціальною технікою. У Будапешті також перебуває і підрозділ рятувальників з військовими водолазами з Південної Кореї.

19-річного на той час Павла Гриба викрали російські спецслужби 24 серпня 2017 року на території Білорусі, де він тоді перебував, і перевезли на територію Росії, де висунули обвинувачення, які українець відкидає.

Mexico’s president responded to U.S. tariff threats with caution again Friday, urging “dialogue” over “coercive measures” in the latest conflict over the two countries’ migration policies.
“I want to reiterate that we are not going to fall into any provocation; but we are going to be prudent, and we are going to respect the authorities of the United States and President Donald Trump,” said Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
“We think that any conflict and bilateral relations should be solved with dialogue, with communication. The use of coercive measures does not lead to anything good,” he added.
His statement Friday morning followed a two-page letter to Trump made public late Thursday, similar in tone, responding to Trump’s announcement on Twitter earlier in the day that the U.S. would begin imposing an escalating tax on imports from Mexico.
“On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP,” Trump tweeted. Until “the illegal immigration problem is remedied” tariffs will continue to rise monthly, going as high as 25% by October 1.
U.S. border agents have apprehended an increasing number of people, largely from Central America, who crossed the southern U.S. border without authorization in recent months.
In contrast to previous spikes in arrivals, recent groups have included a large number of children, prompting U.S. officials to scramble to support families and children traveling without parents — some of whom are seeking asylum.
In an indication of the pressing demands at the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection solicited bids for the purchase of tens of thousands of baby diapers, wipes and bottles this past week, according to documents reviewed by VOA on a government contracting website.
Mexico has the “absolute ability and authority to do a lot more than they’re doing,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Friday.

Lopez Obrador posted a letter to Twitter after Trump’s announcement that said, “Social problems are not resolved with taxes or coercive measures.”
Trump’s announcement of the new tariffs came on the same day Mexico began the formal process of ratifying the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade.
Lopez Obrador said he was sending his foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, to Washington to try to negotiate a solution.
Mexico’s deputy foreign minister for North America, Jesus Seade, says such tariffs would be disastrous, expressing more alarm than the Mexican president.
“If this threat is carried out, it would be extremely serious,” he told reporters. “If this is put in place, we must respond vigorously.”
Marking progress
Some Republican members of Congress but no Democrats were consulted about the plan, according to acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.
Asked in a hastily arranged conference call with reporters about benchmarks Mexico would need to achieve to have the tariffs lifted, Mulvaney said there needs to be significant and substantial reductions in arrivals from Central America crossing into the United States.
“We’re going to take this and look at it on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis,” said Mulvaney. “We are interested in seeing the Mexican government act tonight, tomorrow.”
Trump has repeatedly accused Mexico of not doing enough to stop Central American migrants from traveling through the country on their way to the United States.
The U.S. system, however, is not infallible. While the country has increased its apprehension rate at the border in recent years, U.S. border agents stop an estimated 65% to 80% of people crossing into the country without authorization, according to a 2018 DHS report.

An appeals court says it will speedily consider President Donald Trump’s challenge to congressional subpoenas seeking financial records from two banks he did business with.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan issued a brief order Friday setting a schedule for written arguments to be submitted by July 18, with oral arguments to soon follow.
Lawyers on both sides in the dispute had recommended the expedited schedule after U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos (RAY-mohs) ruled nine days ago that Trump, his family and his companies were unlikely to succeed in their lawsuit.
Trump sued to stop the House Financial Services and Intelligence committees from getting documents from Deutsche Bank and Capital One. The Lawsuit said the requests were unlawful and unconstitutional.

In his first visit to Germany as the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo is meeting Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.
Earlier, speaking to reporters at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas after their meeting, Pompeo said that Washington would not stand in the way of INSTEX, a system Europeans are developing to protect companies from American sanctions if they deal with Iran.
The system is intended to process payment regarding legal businesses, from medicines to aid services and other goods, which are permitted under sanctions regimen.
INSTEX is not yet up and running, but Europeans hope to have it functioning by this summer.
Maas said that even though the U.S. had withdrawn from the Iran agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), its goal remained the same.

Влада Косова оголосила співробітника ООН з Росії Михайла Краснощокова персоною нон-ґрата і наказала вислати його з країни. Про це 31 травня повідомив прем’єр-міністр країни Рамуш Харадінай.
За його словами, він наказав міністерству закордонних справ негайно оголосити Краснощокова небажаною особою в країні. Харадінай також закликав спеціального представника генерального секретаря ООН у Косові діяти згідно з цим рішенням.

Водночас у січні 2019 року генеральний секретар ООН Атоніу Ґутерріш оприлюднив заяву у зв’язку з суперечкою в Сомалі, заявивши, що «доктрина статусу нон-ґрата не застосовується до штатних працівників ООН».
Краснощокова затримали 28 травня внаслідок низки поліцейських рейдів на півночі країни, де переважно проживають серби. В процесі рейду заарештували 19 офіцерів поліції за підозрою у «злочинній діяльності», тоді як Краснощокова, ще одного члена місії ООН і шістьох етнічних сербів затримали за підозрою в перешкоджанні поліцейській операції. В ході арешту він отримав поранення.
Краснощокова швидко звільнили і надали йому медичну допомогу в госпіталі у Північній Мітровиці. Згодом його переправили до Військової медичної академії у Белграді, столиці сусідньої Сербії.

Rescue crews in Budapest Friday are working to raise a sightseeing boat from the bottom of the Danube River, while searching for 21 people still missing after a cruise ship collided with the smaller tour boat late Wednesday.
Seven people are confirmed dead and seven have been rescued All but two people on the boat were South Korean tourists.
Hungary’s state TV reported that all rescued people have been released from the hospital except one who is being treated for broken ribs.
Hungarian police arrested the Ukrainian captain of the Viking cruise ship, identifying him as Yuriy C.
Police say he is suspected of “endangering waterborne traffic resulting in multiple deaths.”
Investigators say the Viking ship and the tour boat, Mermaid, were sailing side-by-side on the Danube in central Budapest when both vessels arrived at pillars under the Margit Bridge.
The Mermaid turned in front of the Viking ship which struck the boat and capsized it. Police say the Mermaid sank in just seven seconds, giving passengers and two Hungarian crew members almost no time to get to safety.
Hungarian rescuers say heavy rain and the Danube’s strong currents are hampering their efforts. They have extended their search downriver into Serbia.
Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the boat accident was “shocking,” and asked authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in has sent a delegation of Korean officials and experts to Budapest to help.

A group of detained asylum-seekers sued the U.S. government Thursday claiming immigration officials in five Southern states are systematically denying them parole.
In the second lawsuit of its kind filed against the Trump administration, legal advocacy groups representing 12 plaintiffs are seeking class action status on behalf of hundreds of asylum seekers being held in detention centers in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. In addition to Central American migrants, the plaintiffs include a member of a Cameroonian opposition party and Cuban and Venezuelan political dissidents.
Migrants who arrive at U.S. ports of entry and ask for refuge in the United States are not eligible for bond hearings in front of a judge, but they can be released from detention on parole for humanitarian reasons under a 2009 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policy.
Denying parole
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center, claims that in recent months there has been an “unwritten policy and practice of categorically denying parole to asylum-seekers” that violates the government’s “own directive and guidelines.”
According to ICE data cited in the complaint, the New Orleans Field Office, which oversees the five states, granted parole in 76% of cases in 2016, but just 22% in 2017. In 2018, parole was granted in just two of the 130 cases in which ICE made a determination, or less than 2%, the complaint said.
The Justice Department declined to comment. The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Administration centerpiece
President Donald Trump, who has made immigration a centerpiece of his administration, has said migrants are abusing the asylum system by making fraudulent claims to stay in the country for months or years as their cases work their way through a backlogged immigration court system.
He has pledged to end a practice of what he calls “catch and release” by detaining more asylum-seekers during their court proceedings.
U.S. officials say the system is overwhelmed by thousands of migrants, mostly from Central America, claiming fear of returning to their home countries. Families are often released to live in the United States because of limits placed on how long children can be held in detention, but adults can be locked up indefinitely during their court cases unless ICE decides to release them.
ICE expanded its detention capacity this year by 2,500 beds in three facilities in Louisiana, where many of the plaintiffs are being held.
First lawsuit in March 2018
One plaintiff in the lawsuit is a transgender woman who said she fled police repression in Cuba, sought asylum in El Paso, Texas, in January and has been detained since. During months in ICE custody, the suit alleges, she said she was periodically held in isolation and has yet to receive an interview to be considered for release.
A separate lawsuit filed in March 2018 made similar claims about ICE field offices in Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, El Paso, Texas, and Newark, New Jersey. Last July, a federal judge ordered ICE to follow its own policy and grant parole to asylum seekers who are not a flight risk or a danger to the community in those jurisdictions.

In a surprise announcement that could compromise a major trade deal, President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is slapping a 5% tariff on all Mexican imports to pressure the country to do more to crack down on the surge of Central American migrants trying to cross the border.
He said the percentage will gradually increase “until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied.”
Trump made the announcement by tweet after telling reporters earlier Thursday that he was planning “a major statement” that would be his “biggest” so far on the border.
“On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP. The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied,” he wrote, “at which time the Tariffs will be removed.”
Trump has accused the Mexican government of failing to do enough to crack down on the surge of Central American migrants who have been flowing to the U.S. in search of asylum from countries including El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
Trump’s tariff threat comes at a time when Mexican authorities have been carrying out migrant raids and detaining thousands more who are traveling through the country on the way to the U.S.
The crumbling city of Tapachula, near the Guatemalan border, has become the epicenter of the crackdowns. Thousands of migrants have been stranded in the city because the Mexican government isn’t providing them visas that allow them to travel. Authorities this week have been clearing out parks of camping migrants and raiding hotels where immigrants were staying.
Mexican authorities raided and largely broke up the last major migrant caravan, detaining hundreds of immigrants from Central America.
And the Mexican government has allowed the U.S. to return hundreds of asylum seekers from Central America and other countries to force them to wait their cases out in Mexico — in one of only a few immigration policies that have not been immediately struck down by the courts.
The White House said Trump would be using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to implement the tariff.
“If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the Tariffs will be removed,” the White House said in a statement.
But if Trump is not satisfied, the 5% figure will increase to 10% on July 1, to 15% on Aug. 1, to 20% on Sept. 1 and to 25% on Oct. 1, the White House said.
“Tariffs will permanently remain at the 25 percent level unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory,” the statement read.
Deal with Mexico, Canada
The announcement comes as the administration has been pushing for passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement that would update the North American Free Trade Agreement.
During a visit to Canada on Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence vowed the deal would be passed this year.
“Our administration is working earnestly with leaders in the Congress of the United States to approve the USMCA this summer,” he said. Asked by reporters about the new tariff consideration, Pence said that both Mexico and Congress need to do more and that Trump is determined to use his authority to call on them to do so.

The Trump administration is committed to making fossil fuels cleaner rather than imposing “draconian” regulations on coal and oil, U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Thursday at an energy conference in Salt Lake City.
Perry previously said the administration wants to spend $500 million next year on fossil fuel research and development as demand plummets for coal and surges for natural gas.
“Instead of punishing fuels that produce emissions through regulation, we’re seeking to reduce those emissions by innovation,” Perry said at the conference.
Fossil fuel emissions have been cited by scientists as a major source of global warming.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently said the world must change how it fuels factories, vehicles and homes to limit future global warming.
Perry said the Trump administration has proven it can make energy cleaner, but he provided no details involving coal and other fossil fuels, other than the closing of old, inefficient coal-burning power plants and exporting increasing volumes of natural gas, an alternative to coal.
Department of Energy spokesman Dirk Vande Beek didn’t immediately return an email and voicemail seeking more details about Perry’s claim.
Perry pointed to an overall drop in emissions as proof of progress.
Greenhouse gas emissions dropped 13 percent from 2005 to 2017, according to the most recent report from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Lindsay Beebe of the Sierra Club in Utah said trying to make fossil fuels cleaner is misspent energy.
“I don’t know that it’s possible right now, but what is ready right now are renewables. Wind, solar and geothermal are commercially viable and at scale,” Beebe said.
The summit Thursday was briefly interrupted when 15 protesters took the stage to criticize the administration’s fixation on fossil fuels.
They said the misguided approach ignores climate change. Police then escorted them out.
After they left, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, who sponsored the event, said he and other leaders appreciated the “youthful enthusiasm” but their call to immediately discard fossil fuels and shift entirely to renewable energy isn’t realistic.
They would like us to quit by Friday and not take anything out of the ground,'' Herbert said.That obviously doesn’t work from a practical standpoint.”
Americans burned a record amount of energy in 2018, with a 10% jump in consumption from booming natural gas helping lead the way, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said.
Fossil fuels in all accounted for 80% of Americans’ energy use.
